Credit for undergraduate studies
Use your past study or work to finish faster
If you’ve studied before or have work experience, you may not need to start from scratch. Credit can reduce the time it takes to finish your degree.
- Past study: Your previous qualifications may count towards your UC degree. This could include study at
- UC College (our pathway college)
- Canberra Institute of Technology (CIT)
- Technical and Further Education (TAFE)
- Registered Training Organisations (RTOs)
- another university.
- Work experience: We can award credit for Australian-based work experience. Each application is assessed individually by our admissions and faculty experts.
Work & Study: Entry & Credit Checker
Use your past study or work experience to shorten your UC degree. This means you can save time and reduce the cost of study.
If you’ve partly completed a qualification, you may still get credit for the subjects you finished. This is usually assessed individually.
We offer the following options for gaining credit towards your degree.
If you’ve finished recognised study or have work experience, you may receive credit when you receive your UC offer. This way, you’ll know your full course length and cost up front.
This credit applies to most undergraduate courses, but check if your course is eligible.
| Your qualification or experience | Subjects | Max credit points | Time saved |
|---|---|---|---|
| Work experience* | 8 | 24 | 2 semesters (1 year) |
| Australian Defence Force experience | 8 | 24 | 2 semesters (1 year) |
| Completed bachelor degree or one year of bachelor-level study | 8 | 24 | 2 semesters (1 year) |
| Diploma, Advanced Diploma or Associate Degree | 8 | 24 | 2 semesters (1 year) |
| Certificate IV | 4 | 12 | 1 semester (6 months) |
We have agreements with many partner institutions. If you’ve studied at one of these, the credit you’ll receive has already been set up. You’ll see this credit confirmed when you receive your UC offer.
If your study or work isn’t covered by automatic or mapped credit, you can apply for an individual assessment. Our faculty experts will review your qualifications or experience to see what counts.
This process takes place after you have accepted your offer and can take longer, but it’s useful if your past study closely matches UC subjects.
