The Â鶹´å of Canberra is governed by its Council which is established by the . The Act defines the functions, values and powers of the Â鶹´å and allows the Â鶹´å to make statutes, rules, and policies to carry out or give effect to the Act. The Council has the entire management of the Â鶹´å and is to act in all matters concerning the Â鶹´å in the way it considers will best promote the interests of the Â鶹´å.

The Â鶹´å of Canberra Council:

• has 15 members
• is chaired by the Chancellor
• is advised by its five standing committees
• meetings normally occur seven times per year. 

• Strategic direction, budget and business plan (Connected - A Decadal Strategy, 2023 - 2032).
• Oversight and review of executive and university performance.
• Management and control of finances.
• Â鶹´å legislation and policies.
• Overseeing and monitoring academic activities.
• Overseeing and monitoring risk management, systems of control and accountability.
• Overseeing management and control of property and business affairs.
• Management of the council's own affairs.
• The Council must in all matters endeavour to advance the interests of the Â鶹´å.

Council Meetings

• Council meetings are governed by the Standing orders (PDF) and held at least six times per year.
• A copy of the Agenda, excluding matters to be considered in closed session, will be available on the Â鶹´å website at least three business days prior to the meeting.
• Council meetings are generally open to staff and students of the Â鶹´å. Members of the public may only attend with the agreement of the Chair (and depending on available seating). Observers are not permitted to be present for closed sessions of Council.
• All observers must register their intention to attend a Council meeting at least two business days before the meeting by email to governance@canberra.edu.au. Observers should comply with the Standing Order requirements Items 54 – 60.
