ARTIFICAL INTELLIGENCE (AI)
Students are permitted to use generative artificial intelligence (GenAI) as indicated in the assessment instructions for this unit.
GenAI may only be used in authorised ways when completing assessments at UC. This means that GenAI can only be used for an assessment when:
- the Unit Convener has authorised GenAI use for that assessment
- the student uses GenAI in the way that the assessment instructions allow
- the student fully acknowledges their use of GenAI, with proper citations, references and a GenAI Acknowledgement Statement in line with the assessment instructions.
Where the assessment instructions do not specifically state that GenAI may be used and how, then its use is not permitted for that assessment. Students must still provide the required GenAI Acknowledgement Statement to indicate whether GenAI has or has not been used in the preparation of the assessment. If unsure, students should seek advice from the Unit Convener.
The Library Guide provides further information, including how to reference GenAI.
In this unit, AI is permitted when preparing for Assessments 2 (Needs assessment) and 3 (Oral pitch) only.
We will be actively engaging with the kind of material AI can produce in class. We will also cover how it may be integrated into preparation of the assessment items, and how it may be referenced.
ACADEMIC INTEGRITY & PLAGIARISM
For details regarding academic integrity see below. Ensure academic integrity and note that re-using your own work (from previous semesters or other units) also constitutesplagiarism.
Students must apply academic integrity in their learning and research activities at UC. This includes submitting authentic and original work for assessments and properly acknowledging any sources used.
Academic integrity involves the ethical, honest and responsible use, creation and sharing of information. It is critical to the quality of higher education. Our academic integrity values are honesty, trust, fairness, respect, responsibility and courage.
UC students have to complete the annually to learn about academic integrity and to understand the consequences of academic integrity breaches (or academic misconduct).
UC uses various strategies and systems, including detection software, to identify potential breaches of academic integrity. Suspected breaches may be investigated, and action can be taken when misconduct is found to have occurred.
Information is provided in the , , and 麻豆村 of Canberra (Student Conduct) Rules 2023. For further advice, visit Study Skills.
Learner engagement
To get the most out of your studies, I strongly recommended that you plan your time commitments, actively engage in class discussions (online or face-to-face) and work with your peers as part of your study.
The amount of time you will need to spend on study in this unit will depend on a number of factors includingy our prior knowledge, learning skill level and learning style. Nevertheless, in planning your time commitments be aware that for this 3 credit point unit the total notional workload over the semester or term is assumed to be 150 hours. That is, successful completion of the unit requires about 10 - 12 hours per week to participatein the lectures and workshops, keep up with the readings and study. I highly recommend that you commit to and set aside about 10 - 12 h per week for studying the knowledges offered.
This unit is designed to critically and reflexively engage and guide your inquiring into, discovering andunderstanding the knowledges offered in this unit. The more you put into engaging with this unit the more you will get out.
Participation requirements
To get most learning out of this unit and to accomplish the marks you desire, you need to actively engage in:
- reading the weekly annoucements, provided readings and Canvas modules
- participating in the lectures and workshops
- assessment tasks including activities in your group for assessment task 3
The lectures and workshops will be recorded and uploaded under "Lecture Recordings". However, we highly recommend that you participate in both.
When attending and participating in lectures and workshops, I expect that you interact in respectful, constructive and courteous ways. This includes having you mobile phone switched off or on silent mode.
To pass this unit, you must attain 50% overall (of total grade).
Required IT skills
All Students
Students are expected to have basic IT skills in order to navigate UCLearn. Regular access toUCLearn is a requirement for students enrolled in this unit to enable access to announcements, discussion forums, completion of online quizzes and for online submission of assignments. It is alsoexpected that all students will have basic word processing skills.
Word, Excel and Powerpoint skills are required.
Students enrolled in the Online Tutorials
The online lectures and workshops involve using the Blackboard Collaborate tool. Blackboard Collaborate provides a virtual classroom or meeting room where you can communicate in real time with me andother students. To participate verbally, rather than just typing in the comment box, I recommend a microphone and speaker headset for best audio quality.
For more information and to test your computer, go to the Virtual Room in your UCLearn site and 'Join Course Room'. This will trigger a tutorial to help familiarise you with the functionality of the virtual room.
Work placement, internships or practicums
This unit involves a WIL related project.
Students must adhere to 麻豆村 policy during WIL experiences, including the Student Conduct Rules 2018, the WIL Policy and WIL Procedure, and the Assessment Policy and Assessment Procedure.
