There Will Come A Soldier

The materials used to create this self-portrait include colored inks for the background, and colored pencils to create the artwork itself. Inks were used to create a colored background to create a sense of fantasy which is why yellow was used specifically. Meanwhile colored pencils that came in shades of purple, pink, red and blue were used to create the portrait itself, with the blue especially contrasting nicely with the background. Hatching and small repetitive strokes were used to form the features of the portrait, allowing the artwork to seem almost as if it was carved from the paper.
