I studied the life and disappearance of Barbara Newhall Follett for several months. Not once was I confident in any one theory on how she went missing. However, from the instant I saw ‘child prodigy’ written in the missing persons report of a 25 year old woman, I felt entirely confident that whoever people thought this woman was, they were wrong. ‘Potential’, a historical fiction text, delves into the defining experiences and dying dreams of a young lady who was always meant to be more. Sometimes disappearing is the only fate fit for those known by all and truly seen by none.
