The Orchidaceous mess

By Eleanor Malam

Visual Arts
Canberra Girls Grammar School - Year 12
This series of two works tells the story of entering adulthood after finishing school and navigating the world as an individual. The painting on the right depicts an orchid with arms and legs, imitating the position of someone clutching their head in fear. To create cohesion, the background is in plain blue, which is carried across into both paintings, it also allows the pinks and yellows in the flowers to stand out. The plainness of the background shows the sheltered environment at school and the security of still living at home. The painting on the left is the world as the individual sees it
