This project investigates Year 2 students’ abilities, engagement and self-efficacy to write by hand and by keyboard, and also explores teaching practices which promote effective writing development, including practices for teaching transcription skills.
In addition to individual interviews, this project utilises a series of child-level measures of handwriting and keyboarding skills to understand children’s motivation and environmental affordances for writing. The project investigates teachers’ pedagogical practices of handwriting and keyboarding using internationally validated surveys.
Outcomes of this project will be disseminated through practical recommendations for targeted interventions supporting the development of these transcription skills in early education, conference presentations, peer-reviewed publications, news and/or radio.
