Support for International Students

There when you need it

At UC we are dedicated to helping you find your feet in Australia, and ensuring you grow and succeed in your goals. From the start of your journey, all the way through to graduation and beyond, we’ll be right by your side with the answers to your questions.

With impressive rates of graduate employment and high starting salaries, our approach to career-based learning is proven to make a real difference to career success for international students.

Career support

The Â鶹´å of Canberra offers one of Australia’s largest work-integrated-learning (WIL) programs. To help give your career the best kickstart possible, almost all of our degrees include a component of WIL. These opportunities ensure you’ll get hands-on, practical experience and build connections with industry whilst completing your studies. You’ll graduate with a competitive edge over the rest, and have a stack of industry exposure under your belt.

WIL comes in many forms depending on your course but you might participate in:

  • Internships
  • Professional mentoring
  • Health related clinical and non-clinical placements
  • Industry, research and community projects
  • Teaching profession experience
  • Volunteering
  • Simulated and virtual business environments.

Our academic staff have strong links to industry both locally and globally, working closely with industry to not only design the course work making sure its relevant to the modern workplace but also in securing strong internship opportunities for our students. In fact, each year, UC matches close to 6,000 students with internships and placements.

Many students might find that their internship leads to permanent employment whilst they are studying.

Our Top Industry Partners include:

  1. Canberra Health Services
  2. Calvary Bruce Public Hospital
  3. National Capital Private Hospital
  4. NSW Health
  5. QLD Health
  6. Nutrition Australia
  7. ACT Education Directorate
  8. NSW Department of Education
  9. Legal Aid ACT
  10. The Mill House Ventures Limited
  11. Brumbies Rugby
  12. Canberra Raiders
  13. Services Australia
  14. Department of Human Services
  15. Department of Defence

I am delighted to be a part of such an exposure program where I get to work with and collaborate with so many individuals from various course backgrounds, network, and gain fresh perspectives on things. Thanks to the Â鶹´å of Canberra for introducing us to industry work experience even before we graduate.

— Akhilesh, Master of International Business

Study support

Study skills programs

Looking for support with structuring assignments, writing and grammar, researching, referencing and online learning systems? Our study skills programs are designed to give you the confidence you need to get through all of your assignments, projects and assessments whilst you study. They offer drop-in help sessions, maths and statistics help and more.

ASK (Academic Skills and Knowledge)

ASK Advisors are current UC students who are available to help other students with topics related to study such as use of the library, assignment writing and UC systems.  They offer 20-minute support sessions both face-to-face or online through our UC Library.

PALS (Peer-Assisted Learning Sessions)

PALS are group study sessions led by students that have successfully completed the relevant unit – typically offered across the larger foundational subjects. They offer additional support to students outside of lectures and tutorials.

Make friends and build networks

Moving abroad can be daunting but with over 70 social, cultural, sporting and academic clubs and societies you’ll have no problems finding likeminded people. You can also look to start your own if there’s something you’re passion about that doesn’t yet have a club.
