UnCover documentary: aspiring to be more

As a Year 12 student, Lola Usback had no intention to go to university. It wasn't until she realised she was one of only a few of her friends not applying, that she started considering further education.

Unfortunately, she had missed the application cut-off and didn't have an ATAR. Luckily, her careers advisor at Hawker College knew that Lola was eligible for a UC College bridging program.

Since beginning her Bachelor of Human Nutrition, Lola has found her feet both in and out of academia. Along with her part-time role at Rebel Sport, Lola is an avid powerlifter, and trains multiple times per week in the sport. She says it gives her the time she needs away from study.

"Like with any type of exercise, you're usually away from your devices while working out, and that provides a bit of an escape from the stressors of life," Lola says.

After graduating, Lola is considering a Masters degree - an incredible feat for someone who thought they may never get a tertiary education. She says her time at UC so far has fostered a passion for learning.

"I've found my niche and I've found what I want to do in the future," she says.
