The Hiker

In writing the story of a hiker, and finding myself uncomfortable with the familiarity of the character I had created, the neon sign flashing 鈥榝iction鈥� over my text fell from its hinges. My text transitioned from a hiker鈥檚 tale into a meta reflection on the exploitation of lived experiences in the name of literature. To what degree can life inspire art before the label of fiction feels disingenuous?
